There are plenty of local routes and rides for motorcycle riders. Whether riding short distances or starting an extended ride, there are plenty of options in the Windy City.

In addition, the Chicago motorcycle show and events calendar has plenty of happenings throughout the year, catering to all riding styles. It’s simple to rent a motorcycle in Chicago for whatever type of trip you have planned. Read on to learn more about:

Motorcycle Rental

Renting a motorcycle in Chicago has never been easier. A quick look through our site will return more than 200 motorcycles of all styles. We have urban motorcycles — like Ducatis and Triumphs — for shorter city rides and larger bikes such as Harleys and BMWs for those extended tours along Route 66 or up north to visit Harley-Davidson’s factory in Milwaukee. In addition, we also have plenty of motorcycles you can “ride before you buy” from Chicago dealers through our extended test ride program.

Chicago Weather For Riding

Chicago is one of the few cities in the United States where you can experience all four seasons in a single day. The best riding weather is in late spring or early fall when temperatures are mid-sixties. Summer riding can be amazing, but it can also be extremely hot and humid, so make sure you have a mesh/textile jacket and a well-ventilated helmet before you throw your leg over the iron horse.

As for winter riding? Don’t try it. The combination of snow, ice, salt on the road, and wind can make it challenging for even the most skilled riders.

Chicago Motorcycle Rules & Tips

Helmets aren’t required in Illinois, but eye protection is. In other words, the Illinois lawmakers would rather ensure your eyes are protected than your brain. Go figure.

Lane splitting is illegal in Illinois, but plenty of riders do it. So if you choose to split, you’re doing it with some risk.

As for parking? Motorcycles almost never get ticketed in downtown Chicago. Just park perpendicular to the curb and be thoughtful. If you see other motorcycles parked together, join these bikes. You’ll take up less room so other vehicles can park.

Preparing for your Chicago ride

When packing and planning your Chicago ride, make sure you consider the weather and temperature. Bring layers for riding in April/May or September/October and lighter wear for summer riding. A neck gaiter and glove liners go a long way without taking up too much space.

Before packing, read our article on traveling with motorcycle gear. If you don’t have gear to pack, that isn’t an issue. Many owners have helmets and other gear they lend out. Just let us know, and we can help you coordinate this.

We are happy to help you find the bike you’re looking for so you can enjoy Chicago on two wheels. Just make sure you bring your appetite! We will be waiting for you.
