Twisted Road owner and renter Karson H. was literally born to ride. Both his parents ride—so he knows first hand how motorcycles can help create a family—just like Twisted Road.
Tell us about your riding experience. How long have you been riding, and how many bikes have you owned? How did you first become interested in riding?
I've been riding since I was 10 years old. On my Mom's side, both my grandparents ride motorcycles. Summer of 2002, my grandpa showed up with a 50cc mini bike and said “it's time your kids learned how to ride a motorcycle.” My parents were already both riders, so there was no argument there. They did, however, make me wait until I turned 18, and had successfully completed the MSF basic rider course, before I got my license and rode on the street. I've only owned two bikes since then, a 2006 SV650, and my 2012 BMW F800GS.
Have you taken any long moto trips? Tell us about them - where did you go, where did you stay, who did you ride with?
The longest moto trip I’ve been on so far was a trip up to Monterey and then back down the PCH. My parents flew out to Los Angeles and rented Ducati Scramblers on Twisted Road. We took off and made the drive north in one day, taking mostly highways. We arrived in Monterey, checked in to our hotel, and then ate dinner by the bay. Next morning we woke up and got on the road by 9:00 a.m. We spent so much time on the way down Hwy 1 stopping at every scenic overlook that it took us 13 hours to make the trip back to LA. It was an incredible day of riding however.
Tell us some more about you - where do you live? What kind of work do you do?
I live in Los Angeles, grew up in Kansas City, MO. I moved out to LA 4 years ago to work in the film industry. I work as a 1st Assistant Camera, also known as a focus puller, on movies, tv, and commercials. And yes, I've worked with Keanu Reeves and have seen his KRGT-1 in person.
What are your hobbies - what do you enjoy doing when you're not riding?
Outside of riding, I enjoy working on and maintaining my motorcycle. LA has a great DIY garage where I can do my own work with all the tools I need. Besides maintenance, I'm an avid home cook and cocktail aficionado. I also love watching movies, or catching a comedy show at one of our many local comedy clubs.
Tell us about your experiences with Twisted Road - as either an owner, as a rider, or both. What do you enjoy most about being part of our community?
Twisted Road has been great! And I can say that as an owner and a rider. It's always fun to meet new riders coming to my area to ride. I always enjoy picking the bike up after a rental, because no one's ever said a bad thing about my GS, which gives me pride as an owner. As a renter, I've been able to try bikes I've always wanted to, and been able to ride with family and friends when I’m away from my own bike.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
Angeles Crest Highway and PCH and the obvious choices. Lesser known, but just as good, would be Bouquet Canyon Road out of Santa Clarita, and Ortega Highway in Orange County.
Last question - where do you hope to ride one day?
My Dad and I keep toying with the idea of riding to Alaska. I'd love to go explore that State, not to mention the ride through Canada. I also want to rent and ride in Europe, Italy and Portugal come to mind right away. I haven't ever rented when I was over there, so it's a bucket list item.

Twisted Road is more than just a motorcycle rental company. It is a riding community. We love to hear stories from both our bike owners and renters about their experiences on two wheels—what they have seen, eaten, experienced or who they have met. Thanks for sharing the open road with us and ride safe!
