Quentin S. of Little River, SC shares his motorcycle journeys through mountains, farmland, and near the water. We're grateful for our members, like Quentin, who share not only their inspiring rides, but their motorcycles as well.
How long have you been riding? Which bikes have you owned and how did you become interested in riding?
Like many people my age, I rode dirt bikes as a teenager. I had road bikes during and after college, then experienced a 20 year period of no motorcycles. I got back into the sport in a big way in my forties. In the last twenty years, I've owned dozens of motorcycles of every type and almost every brand—too many to mention.
What moto trips have you taken (long or short)? Where did you go, stay and explore? Tell us some highlights.
I took several multi-day trips with friends to the Tennessee/Virginia/Kentucky area from Connecticut to attend bike meets and ride famous roads like Tail of the Dragon.
In 2015, I rode from my then-home in Connecticut to Park City, Utah for a family reunion. Then I continued to South Dakota to attend the 75th Sturgis Rally. I came home by way of Fargo and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Awesome trip; about 6,000 miles in 16 days.
What hobbies do you enjoy when you're not riding?
Exercise, bicycle riding, and shopping for new motorcycles and upgrades on YouTube.
What do you enjoy about being part of the Twisted Road community?
My renters invariably tell me they had a great time. I sometimes get a small scuff or some unexpected wear on a bike, but generally my renters seem to treat my bikes well.
What are your favorite biker-friendly places around your hometown?
I like to go to the non-Harley dealerships to see the stock and dream of my next bike.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
Where I live now (on the coast of South Carolina, near the North Carolina border), just north of me are dozens of well-maintained two-lane state highways that wind through rural farmland.
What location is on your moto trip bucket list?
I want to do another out-West trip, including Southern Utah and Yosemite.
