Dave J. of Portland OR, loves his bike. Even better, he wants you to love it too. Read on to learn about Dave's life on two-wheels, both on and off the road.
Tell us about your riding experience. How long have you been riding, and how many bikes have you owned? How did you first become interested in riding?
I started riding motorcycles around 4 years ago. I have always had the itch to see if it would be as enjoyable as I thought it would be, and finally took the plunge. At this point, I have owned 5 bikes in a short time, mainly because I wanted to see how fun each different type is. Besides my Ducati SuperSport S, I also have a Beta 250 2-stroke and go dirt biking every weekend.
Have you taken any long moto trips? Tell us about them - where did you go, where did you stay, who did you ride with?
The longest motorcycle trip I have ever taken is 300 miles. I did that on my KTM 690 Enduro to try out motorcycle camping. It was pretty fun, but not really the best bike for that. I am excited to get some nice bags on my Supersport and do the same. But I'll probably stay in hotels rather than roughing it in a motorcycle camping tent. I want to ride the Icefields Parkway on a motorcycle.
Tell us some more about you - where do you live? What kind of work do you do?
I live in Portland, OR, it's been about 6 years now, after living on the East Coast my entire life. Portland is amazing because of how many different kinds of riding you can do nearby. We have amazing open roads for road bikes, plus hundreds of miles of dirt trails, sand dunes, and long flat highways. Anything you could want, we've got. We also have an amazing and open motorcycle community that allowed me to learn safely about group rides -- which we do each weekend, starting from See See Motor Coffee Co.
(*Pro Tip: See See's owner and operator Thor Drake has his bike listed on Twisted Road. Thor is also responsible for the creation of The One Show, which is a moto show we've all grown to love over the years. Due to COVID, the dates for this year's show have not been decided yet. You can check here for the latest details on dates for the 2021 show.)
What are your hobbies - what do you enjoy doing when you're not riding?
Outside of road riding and dirt biking, I enjoy woodworking, home projects, and tinkering. I am currently building out a custom Overland trailer to tow motorcycles and camp out of.
Tell us about your experiences with Twisted Road - as either an owner, as a rider, or both. What do you enjoy most about being part of our community?
It has been so easy, and so rewarding to use Twisted Road. Much like a lot of secondary vehicles, motorcycles can sit for a bit in between my chances to use them, so it's great to get other people out there on my bike. I really love my bike and I love getting other people on it to see why I love it so much.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
We have a great ride from Portland, down through some back roads to Detroit Lake, and then if you are eager, right from there to Bend. You travel through a TON of different types of environments. City. Mountains. Pine trees. High desert. Low desert. It's just amazing and scenic.
Last question - where do you hope to ride one day?
Big plans: South America. Little plans: Icefields Parkway
